For
the past few years, Dolby Laboratories
had revamped the AC-2 single channel
coding technology the next level
of sound technology. Then
came AC-3, a derivative of the
AC-2 but multichannel music compression
technology. AC-3 is widely
known for its high-quality, low-complexity
multichannel audio coder that
encodes a multiplicity of channels
as a single entity, thereby, enabling
it to operate at lower data rates
(bit rates) for a given level
of audio quality than an ensemble
of equivalent single channel coders.
It is fundamentally an adaptive
transform-based coder that uses
a filterbank-based coding giving
its greatest advantage to realistic,
acoustic sounds pleasing to the
human ears.

AC-3
has been used in producing Dolby
Digital film soundtracks throughout
film and recording studios worldwide.
It is being installed in
nearly every theaters worldwide
and it is now ready to be installed
right in your living room. Now
you can enjoy high quality sounds
right from your own home with
the K-560 Home Theater System.
